We will warm up with a mini mindful yoga flow and conditioning exercises followed by partner balances. There will be two workshops both which will last 1 hour in total at 1:00pm and 2:10pm. At only £10 a slot why not give it a go, we’re sure you’ll surprise yourself.
Focus Movement With Madeleine Cope
This workshop is perfect for anyone who wishes to gain more from movement in their climbing, and transfer strength gains to sport climbing or bouldering.
The class will start in the yoga studio with a discussion of how we can best prepare ourselves to improve quality of movement, approach challenging movement in climbing, and appreciate how our body functions as a whole unit. This will include practise of techniques to help focus the mind alongside physical challenges to gain body awareness.
On the wall, the session will progress from mindful climbing as a warm up, to exploring new ways of moving, and applying this to challenging climbs for individuals. The session will finish by taking climbers back to natural climbing, with an exercise using rhythm to allow the body to flow subconsciously.
Meditation Workshop With Christine Sherratt
This class will help those who attend gain a more peaceful and present state of mind.
By training our mind to think what we want to think rather than our monkey mind deciding for us. Much of our lives we miss the present moment because we are constantly lost in thought. By focusing and anchoring our mind onto an object such as the breath, this allows us to stay present for ourselves and those around us and brings a deep sense of inner peace and calm.
Meditation is helpful in all areas of our lives as it allows us to stay in the present moment without judgement and we get to enjoy where we are at even if it is a difficult situation. It stops the mind from running away with us of thoughts of fear and danger and helps us stay within each moment.
When we become more patient, more loving and more wise we do not just help ourselves – we help everyone in our lives.
Special Guest Speaker – The Infamous Steve McClure
Join us for an evening with one of the best climbers the UK has ever produced – Steve McClure.
Steve is most well know for his achievements in the world of Sport Climbing, having performed at the top end for over 20 years; you could say he knows a thing or two.
Steve sent his mega project, Rainman 9B at Malham Cove (an extension of Rainshadow 9a, which itself is an extension of Raindogs 8a) in mid 2017, the UK’s first route at the grade. Along side this, he also put up the UK second hardest route Overshadow, numerous 9a’s and onsighted up to 8b+. Having said this, he’s also no stranger to big wall or trad climbing, as you may also find him wiggling in wires in Pembroke or sleeping in a portaledge on a 1000m wall in Greenland.
So book a spot for an truly unmissable evening, and let a climbing legend take you on a journey spanning the last 40 years; the climbing evolution, where climbing came from and how it continues to evolve with the first Olympic medals for Climbing on the horizon.
